Beatrice lived in a tiny cottage which was covered with flowering vines and a thatched roof. She was ginger in color and adventurous in spirit. She loved her garden and she always wore her bonnet! As Beatrice wandered through her garden she would often pick some of her lovely flowers and would add them to the others in her bonnet!
One day Beatrice was sniffing her way through her field of wildflowers and suddenly thought that she would love to have a nice cup of tea! She decided to visit her very dear friend Gertrude who lived just up the lane. It was a beautiful sunny day and the air was filed with the scent of flowers, twittering birds and buzzing bees. Buzzzzz.
Beatrice swatted a few of the bees on her way, just for fun. The bees didn't really like it though, and several of the bees began to swirl and swarm and buzz about all the flowers on her bonnet. Amazingly, there was a bee that was also named Bee-atrice, and that little bee was quite friendly and so she said to Beatrice "Would you like to see the magical honey pot that we keep in our secret honeycomb?" to which Beatrice replied “Of course, I would love to!”

Amazingly, there was a bee that was also named Bee-atrice, and that little bee was quite friendly and so she said to Beatrice "Would you like to see the magical honey pot that we keep in our secret honeycomb?" to which Beatrice replied “Of course, I would love to!”
So Bee-atrice and Beatrice went down the lane. Beatrice looked up and saw to her surprise a large honeycomb big enough for a cat to walk into. Bee-atrice invited Beatrice inside. With some trepidation, into the honeycomb she walked.
She was amazed at the tremendous activity going on! “What are those bees doing over there?” she asked, pointing her paw toward a rather large swarm of bees.
“They are preparing a very special batch of magical honey! It's for a very special occasion. This time comes but once every hundred years, and is the most magical event you will ever witness. Every hundred years we get a visit from the High-Queen Bee. The Queen will be visiting with Auntie Bee and delivering the special batch of honey just for her. This is a very special event, for sure. Since you are here you can help by inviting all your friends to the celebration - kitties, woofies, hammies - any furry creatures.
Beatrice set out to town to announce the party to everyone there. As she was telling a bun about the party, out of the corner of her eye she saw Sarah, her ginger friend and spoke of the big celebration, but Sarah just laughed at the idea of a bee being a friend and not a bug to capture! Sarah stuck her little tongue out and just trotted off.
Poor Beatrice! She never expected such a reaction, especially from her best friend! So off she went to invite all her other friends.
Next, Beatrice ran in to old black Bart, one of the meanest and nastiest cats in town! Bart didn't like anyone. Beatrice debated whether she should invite Bart to the party. She walked over to Bart and decided to ask him anyway. Bart blinked in surprise, because nobody ever talked nicely to him before. He said "Everybody thinks I am mean, but I am really just scairt."
Bart had never, ever been invited to a party before. So he said "Thank you very much for inviting me! Of course I'll come." Bart was a little worried, and because he'd never ever been invited to a party before he wasn't sure what he should bring. Would it be okay to bring a mousie, or should he bring some cakes and cookies to go with the tea? He was so happy to be invited that he decided that he would bring both!
Bart ran home and filled a basket to the top and hurried off to join the party.
Just as Bart arrived the music was playing and everyone was dancing. Beatrice was talking to Auntie Bee and Bee-atrice came buzzing over. "Will you and all your friends please gather around the center of the honeycomb? We are going to have the unveiling of the magical honey pot"
Everyone gathered around in excitement as Bee-atrice and the great Auntie Bee each took a corner of the cloth that was covering the magical honey pot. As they pulled the cloth away the crowd gasped! A wonderful golden honey light filled the honeycomb. The light shimmered and then started moving around the honeycomb, stopping on each kitty, bun, woofie, hammie, bee and other creature there.
Bart was totally in awe and felt the warmth of the beautiful shimmering light when it came to pass over him. When it moved on, he cleared his throat, gathered his courage and said to everyone there “I am so touched by efurryone here. Since I was a kitten I have been so scairt of all the other creatures. The magical honeycomb showed me how wonderful you all are. His eyes leaked with happiness.
Efurryone gathered around Bart, hugging him and smiling. Auntie Bee looked on at all of the fur creatures and said "Let them eat cake!"
Just when they thought they couldn't be happier, a dark shadow came over the crowd. All of the creatures looked up and saw a huge black Newfoundland Hound that had heard all the racket and came to see what was the matter. He didn't know if someone needed to be rescued or if there was something more interesting going on.
No one knew what to say to the big Newfie, who had one paw in the cake and one paw in the ice cream!
Bart was the first to speak, saying "My dear friend, there is plenty for all! May I show you the other flavors we have?"
The Newfoundland looked up at this, his soulful eyes brightening at the thought of such largesse. Licking his paws, he moved away from the cake and ice cream, his tree of a tail wagging slowly.
"You have more?” he rumbled.
"Most assuredly, friend. Strawberry and Vanilla, Peach and Lemon, but no chocolate!", Bart assured him.
As Bart led the happy fellow away, Beatrice turned to those assembled and with a twinkle in her eye she said “Today has been a most wonderful day! While I am very sad that Sarah, who I thought was my best friend, turned her nose up at such a lovely celebration of friendship, I am very glad that old black Bart is now my newest friend, thanks to Bee-atrice and the magical honey pot!”
“Now... let us all have a nice cup of tea.”

ReplyDeleteWhile I have no kitties I do love them dearly. I had a gray long-haired cat for many years. She was a dear. She never knew the dog I now have named Luna. She got her name beause she came to us when the moon was full and she is all white unlike the dark cloud, Neufie, that appeared in the story.
