The Story Game: Posey and the Gnome's Satchel

Posey loved to catch some Sunshines while stretched out on her very own bench! From her bench Posey could enjoy several of her favorite activities, such as napping, and watching the beautiful birdies and butterflies in the garden.

Posey also loved to snuggle with her favorite little mouse. She would sit with him and watch the birdies and butterflies. All of a sudden Mouse jumped down and ran to the window. He was staring at something intently, a dark figure in the bushes.

"Posey, come here and look. What - or who - is this?"

"It's hard to tell what that is. Did it just move?"

“Yes. It's moving slowly toward us and it's making a very, very bad sound, a wheezing sound. What is it?”

It appeared that the garden Gnome had come to life, and he had a really bad cold!! The Gnome said “Posey, I need your help!”

Posey was always willing to lend a paw, so she asked, “What do you need me to do?”

The Gnome said. “Posey, I need for you to do a special favor for me as I am old and sick. Would you please help me to pass my special powers along to the next magical creature? Help me to select the best one to inherit all of my powers. I don't have much time, so we must hurry! I have already gathered all of my special powers into this little satchel, ready to give to the next magical creature.

Posey thought and thought and thought.

She knew this was an important decision, for magical powers are not often found.

All of a sudden, Posey had an idea! Posey said to the Gnome, "There are so many kitties out there that need Forever Homes. Let’s find a special person who will let efurryone know about all of us who need Forever Homes. This person should love pets and have a big heart. This person should have a means to tell the world about all pets that need a Forever Home! This person should also be able to judge the character of the beans that are adopting the pets that need Forever Homes to make sure they are good beans and will love and take care of the animals.

The Gnome said to Posey, "That's a wonderful idea but who should we give my powers to?"

Posey thought for a moment and said, “That's a lot of responsibility for a mere human! Giving magical powers to humans is tricky. We should have some sort of contest to find the human with the warmest heart and best judgment. You know, like a sword in a stone or something!”

Meanwhile, little did Posey know that at that very moment there was a lady in the waiting room waiting to see Posey! She had seen her picture on the internet and wanted to meet her in purrson.

The door to the adoption room opened. The lady just couldn't believe what a wonderful place it was. Her heart began to beat quickly. “This could be it! Posey could be my one and only kitty!” thought the lady.

Posey didn't know what to think. She found herself running over to the lady and purring and didn't know why!

The lady picked Posey up and said “YES.”

Posey was overcome with emotion. But she was worried. What about the Gnome and the magic powers? Who would they get passed to? There must be someone somewhere who could take these powers and use them to find homes for all the kitties who wanted them. Posey thought maybe her friend Mouse could have the special powers. He would be perfect! No one would expect a little mouse!

So Posey went to ask the Gnome what he thought. But the Gnome was gone, doing advertisements for Travelocity.

It didn't matter though; Posey and her new human lady went happily along home. Home to a Forever Home, where she would receive many, many scritches and lots of love!

Late that night as the human lady snoozed in front of the TV, Posey was curled up at her feet and purring contentedly.

She was jarred awake when the magic Gnome appeared on TV and started talking about all the great deals on Travelocity. But to Posey's surprise, Gnome broke from the script, looked at the camera and said, "Hey, Posey, I just wanted you to know I gave the powers to your friend, the Mouse. He wanted me to tell you that he would use these powers to help other fur friends find Forever Homes. There's just one thing I forgot to tell Mouse. He must make sure to always say Thank You when he uses the power, for he is asking someone to do something they might not otherwise think to do and thanking them is only polite.

Posey stretched and sat up. She said, “Do not worry Mr. Gnome. My friend Mouse is always very polite. He has always been very considerate of others. He always says Please and Thank You. I think it’s wonderful that your Satchel of Special Powers has been entrusted to Mouse. He has always been a very good judge of character. He is also quite fond of all creatures. Mouse will see to it that the special powers are always used for the good of all furry creatures.”

The Gnome smiled.

Then in the blink of an eye the Gnome said, “Dear Bill, I’ve been cliff diving in Mexico…Aaaaaaah…” as Posey blissfully drifted off to sleep in her very own Forever Home.
