“Blackie” has continued to improve at home but is in need of a skin graft due to scar tissue on her abdomen, said Dr. Amanda Hall of Baytree Animal Hospital. She will be taken to the University of Florida to have surgery next week, during which time “balloons” will be implanted under the skin to allow it to grow.
Medical costs for the treatment of “Fluffy,” “Little Jim” and “Blackie” totals approximately $16,000 at this time.

Thank goodness they caught him - it is quite dreadful to think a 17 year old has the hate to do such a horrible thing to innocent animals.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! I'm really glad they caught him, and I sure hope he gets the help he needs. Just because there is not prior history of violence or mental illness doesn't mean it hasn't lain dormant. Schizophrenia, for example, can appear in the late 20's and beyond with no prior warning signs. I pray for Blackie and this young man to get all the help they can get.

This young man is practicing with animals before he becomes our next serial killer. This is usually the case anyway. I hope he can get some help soon.

Even though Mommy works in the health care field and knows that there are a lot of sick, sick people - she says that her professional side dissapears when she reads or hears about people who harm animals.

Thank goodness the bad person who did this got caught. In addition to serving his punishment, he clearly needs some serious professional help. Also, I think all his future earnings should be garnished until he has paid for the entire medical care for those kitties out of his own pocket, no matter how long it takes him.

ReplyDeleteWE don't understand how even someone who is 17 could possibly think that it was OK to do what he did to these poor defenseless cats. There are places for people like him and it starts with a H and ends with a L. He should be made to work with abused animals for a very long time to help "pay" for what he has done. But even that would not atone for the terrible pain he has inflicted on three innocent lives.

We are very glad to hear an arrest has been made in this horrible cruelty case. We will continue to purr for Blackie as his road to recovery will certainly be long and hard. He didn't deserve this as no living thing does. Bless his heart.

This makes me so sad! At least they caught the perpetrator - so often they don't. And it is good that the community took this seriously.

I am forever shocked by the violent behaviour of some human beings! I'm afraid there are many who would happily perform this sort of atrocity on animals. Similar stories are always in the news. Punishment is usually harsh in the UK but not all are brought to justice.
ReplyDeleteDo they have mental issues, or are they just not taught to care about living creatures by their parents? I've seen things of a lesser degree done to animals and the parents laugh!
There just isn't much else that can be said about this half-whit. His desire to "get someone else in trouble" was the only thing on his mind. He has no regard for animals, or for the property of others. He should spend a very long time in jail, but will probably end up with little more than community service.

ReplyDeleteHey peeps and pets, this kid has something seriously wrong with the grey matter up in his noggan. Things like this lead to Ted Bundy behavior later in life our dad says (Who's Ted Bundy?). He obviously needs some mental evaluation and treatment. We're glad that he has been identified and apprehended even if it won't bring back the two souls that he tortured to death. We hope that he is forced to make some payment toward the efforts to treat the kittens.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad he was caught before he could harm any other animals. I hope he gets the maximum sentence - even though it doesn't seem long enough to me for this horrific act. Hopefully he also gets the psychological help he obviously needs so as to never, ever harm another animal ever.

ReplyDeleteThis was such a terrible story, it's still hard to understand what caused this person to do it. Like Mickey says, we have no sympathy for him. We posted today on CatSynth about a cat who was very loved during his life, and to think that there are other people out there who could see the same creature and instead of thinking love they think of committing terrible cruelty.
We pray that Blackie will continue to recover physically, and that the kind humans helping him can help him spiritually to feel strong and confident. The poor little soul. We just can't fathom...
ReplyDeleteSadly this is a juvie offender and he probably won't get harsh punishment. But equally sadly, is that many times youngers that torture animals move to killing humans later in life to get their kicks. This young man needs lots of help and guidance.
