Whitey has company

Whitey has company

We had some company this weekend and they brought our cousins Ringo and Buddy to visit, too. Ringo and Buddy live with several cats. All of the cats out-weigh little Buddy, who is only 6 pounds!

Mom was expecting Whitey to hiss and hide, much like we do around dogs, but as soon as Whitey saw Ringo and Buddy he literally went ‘all Ninja’ on them.

Remember that Whitey is front-declawed - he did not hurt Buddy or Ringo. Mom thinks Whitey’s reaction to merely seeing the 2 little dogs certainly has something to do with his 3 years Outside fending for himself. It may even have something to do with his most recent injuries.

The whole thing lasted about 5 seconds. Buddy and Ringo’s Dad removed them from the room immediately. Whitey had to check every inch of the room to make sure they were gone before he would settle back down in his bed.

Whitey’s wounds are healing very nicely, but obviously, Whitey has some wounds on the inside that have to heal, too.

35 friends chimed in...:

  1. Poor Whitey,Buddy and Ringo. Breaks our hearts thinking what Whitey's life was before you saved him. And Buddy and Ringo must have been shocked by Whitey's attack. We hope for peace among them soon.

  2. Ours basically hide, too. Whenever there's anything out of the ordinary, two out of three head for the back bedroom.

Hopefully, Whitey will take things more in stride in the future.

  4. Oh poor Whitey, what did that little cat have to endure before he got his loving home. I agree the inside scars will take so much time to heal..

  6. Looks like Whitey is feeling comfortable enough at home to defend his territory.

I hope all of his wounds (both physical and emotion) heal soon.

  8. Whitey, I'm sending you special purrs today. Us ex-stray mancats have got to stick together. Cory has let me comment today just so I can tell you that it takes time for the emotional wounds to heal up, but they can. It's been a little over 3 months for me and just yestday my mom caught me actually playing with a little soccer ball. It gets better every single day. I'm rooting for you!!!

  9. Wow, the Ninja Kit. Sounds like you are definitely on the mend and full of spit and vinegar, Whitey. We're sure glad no woofies were harmed in the Ninja display.

  10. Poor Whitey has had to live by his wits and decided attack was the best form of defence. Hopefully, in time, he will realise that they are not a threat to him. We are glad the little dogs were okay.

  11. It's so sad that Whitey had to deal with (we can only imagine) on top of his starvation and injuries. It's amazing that he is being given this chance. Whitey, you have an awesome Mom!

  12. Oh Whitey. We are sorry to hear that you were so scared of your cousin doggies. You know, our Dante still gets ninja with Yaffa and Sebastian, and he's lived here for almost a year! I guess you will always have inner defenses.

  20. I am so sorry that Whitey felt that he had to go all Ninja kitty on Buddy and Ringo. I bet they were shocked by his attack. I hope that all of them can settle down now that they are separated. Those inside wounds can take a very long time to heal. Sometimes they never quite do heal up.

  27. Ah, Whitey, who knows what tales you could tell about your time trying to survive! Do not worry, I run and hide if I even hear a doorbell! Even one on TV!

  28. I was just thinking about Whitey and the reaction to the dogs. I had a blind dog long ago. Due to his blindness it really took him a lot of time to accept new animals in the house because they moved in a way that he wasn't accustomed to but once he knew more about them, he was fine.

Of course, Whitey has some HUGE scars and wounds on his heart and soul. But you know, look at how he's accepted you and your home. Animals are the most forgiving of God's creatures...that's why I love them so much,

  29. Whitey,
Don't worry about the woofies. They won't hurt you and you probably scared them more. I am sorry that you were frightened though. Take a deep breath, grab a snuggle or two and it will all be better.
You look like your healing well. Keep improving and you will soon be the most handsomest man-cat we know!

  30. Don't worry, Whitey. You will soon learn that everybuddy loves you and won't let you get hurt. You can take a break from fending for yourself.

  31. Wow, Whitey. You're a fierce cat. We hoped you calmed down again and keep getting better!

  32. Oh Whitey! We are so very sorry that you had such a traumatic time living on the outside. We look forward to you getting real comfortable in your new home and learning that not all woofies or humans will hurt you.

We are doing some extra purring for you!

  33. Poor Whitey :( He's been through very bad things fending for himself for so long. I'm glad Ringo and Buddy weren't injured.

  34. Poor little Whitey. All those years fending for himself are bound to have left baggage for Whitey. We're sending him purrs.
