Gandalf meets Gracie

So... How'd that go?

Not great. But I was at a distinct disadvantage. I was on my way to see Dr. Tad for my annual so I was in the Carrier and already hissy and stretching my voice muscles.

I hissed at Gracie. A lot. She seemed unimpressed. Dum Dum kitten.

Dr. Tad says I am in excellent health! I've maintained my weight since my last appointment, which is really great since my foods for Urinary Tract Health tend to make cats put on weight. Even better, there are no signs of any crystals or a UTI.

Unfortunately, I have to start taking pills! Dr. Tad gave me a prescription for Prozac. He says it will help to calm me down. He and Mom hope that along with all the other things Mom is doing that will help me stop marking. It will take 3-4 weeks before we know if the pills are doing any good.

I hate taking pills. And Mom is not looking forward to that either because I am a little bit naughty when she tries to pill me.

29 friends chimed in...:

  1. Gandalf, it is too bad you have to take pills, but I hope they work for you! And hopefully you can meet Gracie on a better day! But we are glad that you're in such good health! That is very good news!

  2. We are glad you got a good vet report and hope the Prozac will help you. Maybe next time you will be a bit less hissy with Gracie when you aren't locked in your PTU.

  3. I would be annoyed to if I had to go to the vet. I am glad you got a good report though. I hope that the pills will help you out!

  4. We're glad you are in excellent health. Yay! We hope Prozac helps. Meeting Gracie might help too since you have probably been smelling her on your mom's clothes when she comes home from the swamp, so now you know who the mystery kitty is and could see she is tiny and looks completely harmless.

  5. Sorry about the pills, we cats hate taking pills. Fenris is weird he loves his. He acts like Mommy is giving him a treat. Dogs are soooooooooo dumb.

Artemisia isn't impressed with my hissing and growling either. We all get along fairly well now. Everybody just ignores my hissing and growling cept Daddy and he throws me out in the garage, not fair he takes the powder puffs side. ~Scylla

  6. Gracie is a smart girl. She knows you are a good boy behind all those hissies! When Nigel was on Prozac mom was able to get a special mixture from a compounding pharmacy that mixed it in liquid that tasted like chicken. Mom mixed it in his Fancy Feast and he licked it all up!

  7. Poor Gandalf. You just can't get a break lately, can you? I hope the kitty prozac helps. My mommie got some treats especially for giving pills. You put the pill in a little hole in the treat. She'd tell you the name, but she doesn't remember.....

  8. Gandalf, we're glad to hear you checked out okay at the vet!! And could you use pill pockets to help you take those pills???

  9. Gandalf, what big teeth you have. I do hope the medicine helps you calm down so things will be relaxing at your home.

  10. Oh boy Gandalf we can practically hear you hissing in that picture of your toofs and tongue! Gracie's not impressed...she just wants to be friends. We hope the Prozac helps...maybe Pill Pockets would make taking the pills easier on you and Mom both?

  20. We are happy the V-E-T visit brought good news...Pills are a pain but if it helps keep you happier, then the whole family will be happy too.

We think that you should give Gracie another chance...You mostly tolerate Whitey and Gracie is cute and a GIRL!

  21. Again, I can comment! As I said in my email, I think you're so brave Gracie! I think you want to have the company of other kitties. Once all your brothers have settled down and come to know and love you like we do, it's going to be just wonderful.

I sure hope Gandalf feels calmer soon, and doesn't give your Mom too much problem pilling him.

  22. Teak was on that for about 5 months because the ordeal he went through before Mom adopted him made him afraid of everything! He still isn't the bravest kitty but he doesn't hide any more. Here's hoping it works and you all stay family. (=^Y^=)

  23. Of course you are grumpy. Being locked up is not the best way to meet a pretty girl.

  24. oh Gandalf, we hopes that the pills werk for you and you're back to being your old self soon!

  25. I really like that last picture of you, Gandalf. It's grey-t! As for the pills, well, I like to put up a fight. The Mom swears by making me an Egg-arito with a towel and using a pill shooter. I swear by trying to clawr her. heh heh

  29. Kittens, silly kittens! What part of HISS didn't she understand? And trapped in a carrier while she got into your space? What's a mancat to do? Oh, and we betcha you will like the Prozac, Disco was on it for spraying but had to change to another anxiety med, Paxil, as it didn't help too much for him anyway.

Your mewmie might try hiding your meds in a Greenies Pill Pocket. That's what she does with Disco's 1/4 of a pill and while she still has to poke it down, it makes it easier to find when he spits it back out, hahameow
