Gracie's X-ray 032510

Gracie's X-ray 032510, originally uploaded by willthink4wine.
Dr. Tad says he's never seen anything like this. The Yellow Arrows are old breaks. Both femurs show old breaks as well as a lower break on her right rear leg. There is no right hip ball joint to speak of.

The Pink arrow is the area he suspects is hurting her. Dr. Tad says it is either a new injury or it's an old injury that doesn't show signs of healing and may have been re-injured, and he can't be sure. Momma suggested he call the Vet our neighbors first brought Gracie to when they caught her to compare X-rays. Dr. Tad was going to do that after Momma left.

She has swelling all around the Pink Arrow area. He aspirated the area while she was sedated and there is no fluid, so no infection, at least not yet.

She has to be confined to a crate for 2 weeks to keep her from jumping and to give it time to heal.

Dr. Tad gave Momma some Butorphanal which she can have up to 3 times a day, as needed for pain.

Poor baby girl.

  1. Oh poor Gracie - I just wanted to cry when I saw that X-ray. If I can tell something is wrong it has to be very wrong. You can tell from the X-Ray her leg is swollen and oh, that poor baby with those three previous breaks! No wonder she is miserable. I hope the meds help her - she is going to go nuts stuck in a crate for two weeks, poor baby. We are sending her lots of purrs and prayers to feel better quickly - we know she will still be stuck in the crate but we want her to feel good whle she is in there!

  43. Oh my! Poor Gracie! It looks like some of it was congenital, like the missing ball joint, but the rest is really shocking -- all those breaks, and on both sides! It's amazing that she could get around at all.

Poor wee thing. Do you know how her legs were broken to begin with? Did someone abuse her, or was it an accident?

I know she might not like it, but it's the best thing for her to be calm for now, so the cage it is. I'm sure you'll talk to her and pet her lots through all of this. What a little love!

We're purring here that she recovers well. I guess she'll be rather fragile for the rest of her life, though.
