The Gray Boys Nip Out
Mom and Whitey did an update on Facebook yesterday after Dr. Dave called Mom with the test results late yesterday afternoon, but we thought we'd also update the blog for those of you not on Facebook.
Dr. Dave ran a bunch of Blood Tests, mostly looking for Kidney problems (CRF) or Infection. His Creatinine (secondary Kidney function level) came back elevated and will be repeated in a week.
All his other levels were mostly normal with a few either slightly high or slightly low.
- slightly low White Blood Count (4.4)
- slightly high Hematocrit (46.6)
- high Creatinine (2.04)
- slightly high Total Cholesterol (180) although triglycerides were normal (49
- slightly high Protein (7.6)
- slightly high Albumen (4.1).
His X-ray was normal, although Dr. Dave did point out that if it is indeed a hairball, that would not show up in an X-ray because the X-ray can't see furs.
Dr. Dave says the Creatinine is barely high and may still be nothing to be concerned about, but that is why we're repeating it.
He also was a bit concerned because Grayson has lost almost a pound (14 ounces) since his Annual on Feb 2nd. (You'd think he'd be happy because he wanted him to lose that pound and Mom has been carefully measuring the foods!)
Dr. Dave gave Grayson an injection that lasts 24 hours for the Vomiting (.5 ML Cerenia). That has worked beautifully! Yay! We hope Grayson doesn't start vomiting again when that wears off (about 4:00 today).
Dr. Dave also prescribed Mirtazapine that is broken into small pieces that Mom needs to give him once every 3 days. Mom googled it and read it is usually given as an appetite stimulant. After reading about it Mom is going to call Dr. Dave and question why he wants Grayson to take Mirtazapine because Grayson's appetite has been fine... it's just that since Tuesday he vomited most of it up after eating.
Oh. And by the way... All the moneys that Mom saved last Friday by taking Gracie and Whitey to Florida? Yeah. Well, yesterday Grayson used every bit of that all up! It's a good thing Mom saved it, right? Right!
Thank you all for your purrs and prayers. We'll keep you updated if anything changes or we get a diagnosis.

We've just said a purrayer for Grayson. Hope next week's test comes up GOOD NEWS!!!
ReplyDeletePaws crossed for you.
Awww, I'm hoping for good results. I'm sorry they were poked and prodded. Poking is BAD! If it makes you feel any better, I think we laid out $2,000 this year on two cats.
ReplyDeleteVirtual hugs and good thoughts coming your way! Grayson, don't vomit anymore. It upsets your mother.
We will continue to purr for sweet Grayson and hope all is normal when he gets rechecked.
ReplyDeletepee ess...tell Whitey I loved the cake he baked for me ::chirp:: and that I'll be able to take back by blog soon...with my momma and Madison's birthday I had to be generous....

Poor Grayson - hopefully the injection will stop the eat and sick cycle. Hope next week's test result is ok.
ReplyDeleteHeadbutts and purrs to you.
I'm so sorry to hear that Grayson is feeling so poorly. It made me wonder if his problem could be stress-related. After all, it's not that long since you moved from your other house.
ReplyDeleteIs Grayson a sensitive kitty? It really depends on temperament, as well.
One of my previous cats would throw up all the time, and I took her to the vet and they did a bunch of tests. As it turned out the vet said she had pancreatitis, which is aggravated by stress. He asked if there were any unusual stressors at home -- and of course, it was my other cat, Thomas, who always jumped on Dazzle and chase the poor girl around all the time.
Anyway, he suggested that we feed her baby food (meat) until she felt better. It's easier to digest apparently. Perhaps you could give this a try.
We are sorry you're feeling poorly, Grayson! We're sending all of our best purrs so you're better soon!
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad that Grayson is feeling crummy but we are glad that he is not barfing at the moment - we hope that maybe he will be able to keep stuff down after getting used to eating again. Sending lots of purrs and prayers for good test results!!
ReplyDeleteSo much for saving money. But good thing you did.
ReplyDeleteWe hope Grayson will be okay and not vomit again.

ReplyDeleteSniffie and the Florida Furkids
Grayson, sorry to hear you are feeling a bit yuck. I prescribe lots of fresh, live mice (this will help shift any furballs that may be lurking) and also lots of sleep. The odd piece of fresh salmon wouldn't hurt either.
ReplyDeleteHope your next results are perfect and all is well
Dr W. Wuudler
We is purraying for Grayson to get better-and-better.
ReplyDeleteWe just nose everything will be just fine with him. He's a good kitty and mommy sais good kitties always has the best.
oh my gosh guys we didn't know anything was going on. we are so sorry we missed out. Mom has been not herself lately and we apologize. Tesla was really sick one time- like that doing the vomiting and so forth and not eating- we thought she ate something real bad. We did xrays- nothing. But, we also did the barium series- which is a chalk like substance that moves through the body and they take xrays every so many minutes to see how it's moving through the body and to see where it got stopped- and she had a hairball. VERY expensive procedure for just a hairball. We are purring for you.
ReplyDeleteBless heart, Grayson! We are all so very sorry to hear you are feeling unwell and vomiting. We hope you start feeling all better and no more nausea. We hope the next test results are good!
ReplyDeleteCal was on mirtazapine to stimulate his appetite and it worked great for him, but that is when he wasn't eating anything at all. Hopefully the doc can shed some light on why her prescribed it for Grayson.
We are purring and purring for Grayson!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. I hope the medicine helps and Grayson is as good as new very soon. Good thing you saved the greenpapers on the last vet visit.

Excellent news! Your vet is doing just what our vet (mewmies boss, hahameow)would do...and your creat ain't bad but it's good to recheck it just in case the elevation was due to dehydration etc.
ReplyDeletePoor Grayson, we'll purr for him.
ReplyDeleteOh Grayson, why is it the short-hair Cats always get the furballs? Cuz of course that's what is HAS to be! We prescribe some oat or barley grass to help you sick it up. And TONS of lovins.
