Glory-Us!

Sandy and Dick couldn't make the group photo so I twitched my nose and bewitched the photo! I wish I had a better photo of Sandy and Dick, but at least we're all together!

My parents made it safely to my sister's. She is a tad creeped out and upset because security went through her luggage and messed everything all up. But they left a note. :-)

When I called to see how my parent's travel day went my bil Rick answered the phone. He told me that my parents were taking a little nap and my grand niece Aria, his granddaughter, was listening to Beethoven. Aria is 26 months old now! When I talked to Aria she said, "Hi, Auntie Barbara. Ba ba ba BA. I love Beethoven! " In case you didn't know... Ba Ba Ba BA is the intro to Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Aria LOVES classical music. And Yo Gabba Gabba, of course. By the time I hung up Aria asked for something and her father, my nephew Mike, answered, "I'm sorry, we're listening to George Gershwin right now, honey". :P Mike's a music teacher... and my favorite Piano Man! Mike teaches  in the public school system for grades K-5, so it is no surprise to me that Aria is already a lover of music of all kinds. Aria's Mommy is an Art Teacher in public schools, grades 6-9 I believe. I think Aria is one lucky girl to have such artistic and creative parents! And baby brother Ian will be coming along in just a few weeks!

Business was pure crap yesterday. Ah, well. It is the end of the month. In fact, today is the very end of June and that means that the first half of this year is history. But today is another day and I'm hoping for some nice orders! I hope your day is glorious! Big hugs xoxo

OK. Now it's summer.

I hereby officially turn over the keys for the caring and well-being of my parents to the sisterdears! :P

I dropped them off at the airport in the wee hours of morning. They'll be enjoying a lovely lunch at the home of my sister Lynda and bil Rick. I wish I were going to be there, too, but I'll have my turn at the end of September.

Let the projects begin! Well, not today. Today I'm working. Projects are for weekends and most of them will involve paint. I have my brother Billy back here again as of yesterday. It's very temporary. Just for 4 weeks... or less, if he doesn't play by my rules. Today I have many cleaning chores lined up for him to keep him out of trouble. And more of the same tomorrow and every day thereafter. He's going to be busy, busy, busy.

And today is a big Birthday Day... It's my friend Al, my brother Paul and my dear friend Miss Judy's birthday. Happy Birthday one and all! I wish you all a lovely, blessed day!

And now to see what you've been up to and then get to work! Big hugs xoxo

Amazing!

So last night I was in bed early. No surprise there, right? Anyway... I heard my office phone ring several times. I do not answer business calls once I'm in bed. Do you? Then my cell phone started ringing. Sometimes one of my sisterdears will call just in of off-chance I may be up. I dozed back off... Then in a little while my mother knocked on my door to tell me my phones just kept ringing. I was not happy, but I got up.

A friend, who happens to be several hours from home, was calling. His wife had just told him that one of their cats wasn't coming in for the night when she called them. He asked me if I would go over there and call for Tucker and see if I could get him in. Because everyone knows cats love me better than anything and do absolutely everything I say. Not. :P

So I change back into my clothes and drive over to the Pecan Orchard... where, btw, my Yellow house STILL has not sold... Anyway, I drove the subdivision at about 5-10 mph looking for him, just in case I should see him and also to at least eliminate road kill. I arrive at their house, which is the very last one in the subdivision. I start hollering his name. I walk the drainage ditch. I walk a good bit of the fence that divides their property from the neighboring farm. The cat LOVES that farm. They have cows and horses that he can visit. The cows and horses are not quite as enthusiastic as Tucker. srsly.

It's now nearly dark, I'm being eaten alive by bugs and it's looking like a storm's a'comin. I make one more drive around the subdivision. I call my friend. "Tell me some good news", he says. "Well, he isn't road kill" I answer. At that moment I am about to drive out of the subdivision when I decide at the last moment to drive past my Yellow house, which I had not done yet. It's just to the right as you enter the subdivision and the only thing to the right is my house and a few others with only one of those cul-de-sac turn-around thingys at the end.

Long story short, if that is possible any more, I told my friend as I drove past my house that I thought I saw something dark on my front porch. Tucker is a Tuxedo cat. I drove around the cul-de-sac turn-around thingy and headed back to my house. I set the phone down and walked up to my front porch.

And there is the cat! 125 houses in the subdivision and that stupid cat picks my house to hang out past curfew.

"I've got him!", I said, as I tossed a now-angry cat into my back seat. Everyone was relieved and excited! Except for Tucker. As happy as Tucker was to see me when I first picked him up, being in my car made him mad as a hornet! I drove Tucker back to his own house, hoping not to be scarred for life AGAIN by Tucker Scissorhands! Yes, that really IS his nickname.

As I was leaving the subdivision I called my friend to tell him Tucker was now back in his own home, safe and sound. Then I looked at my house as I took the turn out of the subdivision. It was now just 5 minutes later and I could no longer see my front porch. It was pitch black and naturally no lights are on in the house.

Talk about luck!

Tucker Scissorhands

Stupid cat.

It totally made my day!

Suspicions... they has them

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY BLOGCAST! I am posting this to our old blogger blog and to our current Wordpress blog. Google told me there was suspicious activity on mai account. I had to have them call Momma's phone to verify it was really ME trying to log in so I could comment on mai Cory Mitten Kitten's post today. And then I had to change mai password. Again.

This kind of blogger issue is why we moved back to Wordpress. We still need to keep a blogger account though... in case we have time for commenting on some of your blogs that don't allow Open ID commenting. sigh.

I decided to let this be a Public Service Announcement to all of you. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS FREQUENTLY!

Like NOW even. So you don't get hacked.

You're welcome.

We made it to another Monday!

It's the last week of the first half of the year. We just keep going through them like nobody's business. The last week of the month generally is slow for my business, but I am hoping for a windfall of business this week. Hey, you don't get it if you don't ask for it!

If it's the end of June that means my parents are about to make their annual summer sojourn. I am looking around my house trying to prioritize which projects to tackle while they are visiting the SisterDears. For sure painting the hallway and my office. I can't think beyond that right now. Because it's hot. Really hot. We just had a tiny bit of rain... and I do mean tiny.

I haven't seen the geese in a few weeks so they have apparently migrated until next February. Sadly, this was not a good year for goslings. Only 1 out of 7 made it. Or it was a good year for the hawks, raccoons and feral cats. It's all part of wildlife here at the Swamp.

I'm busy with youknowwhat. I hope your day is lovely. xoxo

PS. As I was finishing up this post this line was spoken just before I turned off the TV|

"I could use a Twinkie."

And the movie, which just started... Zombieland. Happy Monday! :-)

BWTB Day

20110625-025302.jpg

Today's photo was taken in is Nassau, Bahamas. I messed around with it with one of my iPhone apps, which to my delight synced to my iPad. I had no idea it would even work on my iPad and never would have thought to download it. I just love pleasant surprises!

I am going to try to do a post without mentioning the "W" word. Hahahaha.

Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and I disassembled my electronics in the living room. I performed a DVD-ectomy so I could move it back into my bedroom, its rightful place. When we moved to the Swamp I thought it would be a good idea to have it in the living room. It was not. I have missed watching my movies when I go to bed. I was forced to surf the TV guide to find something not-too-horrible to fall asleep to. Hello, again, my favorite movies! And naps. Because the first thing I did was pop in the latest Harry Potter movie and went promptly to sleep. For more than 2 hours! Ahhhhh... Lovely.

Well, if it's Sunday it must be BWTB. And it is! I hope your day is divine! xoxo

Welcome to Grand Turk! Oh, I mean the weekend!

I don't want you to think I am all work and no play. I do take periodic breaks; play a game of Bejeweled... scritch a kitty's head, peek in on Facebook, play in Photoshop... check on possible cruises! :P

So while I'm working and dreaming of my next cruise I do hope all of you are having a lovely day! xoxo

Kuala Lumpur, Sri Lanka and beyond

Forgive me for being so dull lately. I simply can not get my head out of my web site and my business. For instance...

For some strange reason my business web site gets a lot of visits from Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur. Does this surprise anyone else as much as it surprises me? Malaysia has print shops?

I've recently been getting visits from Thessalonika, too. And Jerusalem. The Holy Land. They have print shops, too. Who knew? I guess I thought they were still doing scrolls and papyrus. :P

So anyway, this all got me to thinking. My first business was a brick and mortar business. I did exporting and had to deal with the whole Customs thing. However this business is strictly drop-shipping and because my primary manufacturers will not export, I can't either. I'm seeing how many visitors I get that I have to let go to another dealer. I'm kicking around some ideas to allow me to seize this opportunity of traffic. I really HATE to lose an order! I have some freight forwarders I ship to and I'm going to see if I can capture some of this potential business!

It's Friday... But I'll still be working this weekend. Am I DULL or what? I hope your weekend is grand!

xoxo

one potato, two potato, three potato, four

donkey teeth

I've been thinking about totin' too many taters around in my tater sack. If that makes no sense, read Lois' 2000th post, specifically Empress Bee's comment.

I don't know why, but as soon as I saw this photo in PW's current photography theme "Funny Face" I LOL'd... and then I immediately thought of toting too many 'taters around for far too long.

I need to be more like this donkey... sure, he's stubborn... but he's unloaded his burdens and he's laughing about it now.

What day is it again?

I'm seriously losing track of what day it is on any given day. I have to hover my mouse over the date and time doohickey in the corner of my monitor to find out. How sad is that? One day turns into another and another. It's a whole lot more fun not knowing what day it is on a cruise. Just saying.

While I don't have a cruise booked yet, I did book my flights for the fall! This will be my first Autumn in New England since 1993. I can't wait! Bring on the Fall Foliage and the crisp fall air! I may actually need to buy some new sweatshirts! :P

Business has been incredibly slow this month so I'm hoping for a windfall of orders today. Don't forget to put some YAY in your day! xo♥

Crazy weather

Do any of you read The Big Picture? I always find it fascinating. Each post is accompanied by anywhere from 30-45 photos... All big. Today's post is quite compelling and heartbreaking when you consider how many millions of people have been and continue to be affected by the extreme weather.

Depending on the subject matter, some of the photos will make you cry. Some will make your shake your head. And some of them... They'll just make your jaw drop.

20110620-073837.jpg

At least that's been my experience.

Momma's little helpers

This is what I see for most of the day while I'm re-vamping my web site. Every now and then it's one of the boys. Gracie loves chasing the mouse curser on the screen. Helpful? Not so much. But it does make for some comic relief.

Rain! We had some!

It was quite a nice storm we had last night. Steady and soaking. It made it nice and cool this morning and blew out the smoke for bonus points. Unfortunately, the heat and humidity still found it's way back but it was lovely while it lasted. I hope there's lots more rain coming. This drought has everything shriveling up, including my beloved Swamp.

I worked nearly all day on my web site today. Tomorrow won't be much different, although I will quit early to take my Mother to BWTB. Yes, I do know that it is Father's Day tomorrow but my Dad doesn't like a fuss. At all. I've already given him his doo-Dad, an 8x10 photo of my mother that I took a few weeks ago that he absolutely loved.

Since I am on my iPad again you get another old photo from my cruise. I've been online perusing cruises and every time I do I get an phone call from yet another person who claims to be MY personal planner. The latest one was very professional in her voice mail. Before her was Steve. I sure hate that Annie left but I'm sure they can all book a very nice cruise!

Well, the Rd Sox are on and I will now give them my full attention... Until I fall asleep! G'nite. Xoxo

Hello, weekend. Oh, how pleased I am to see you.

So the floor is in! I think we'll take a day or two off to rest before we get to the finishing touches. We had to rip out some drywall that had soaked up some water. We also had to take out some of the door trim and all of the baseboards. I believe the plan is to completely repaint the hallway. You know how I love new paint! Actually, that paint project was already on my agenda for this summer while my parents visit the SisterDears.

Did I mention that the hallway has 10 doorways in the hall? TEN! Mother mercy, that was a lot of undercutting and guzintas.

I took this photo on the Glory as we were leaving port. WIWT with an umbrella drink and early dining!

Friday, finally.

It's been a long week. Actually it's been a long month here at the Swamp.

On top of the hot, icky sticky we are in a terrible drought, as is Florida. Plus we have the fires north and south of us. As I type this I actually hear the sounds of thunder... It is rumored that we shall have rain today, although only a 30-40% chance. It sounds promising at the moment. Yesterday morning the smoke was horrible. A BWTB buddy who works in Waycross told me she had smoke and ash all day at her business, plus all the stuff we have here. She left a good 45 minutes early, just in case.

~~~~~~~~~
Ok, this was supposed to be a draft, but my iPad app decided to publish now. Whatever. LOL! Thankyouverymuch!
Boundless...
...the possibilities are absolutely boundless.
Do you remember the song "I Believe"? I've been thinking about that song a lot lately as often in this life there will be things going on that could drag a person down if we allow them to. In fact, there are a few things that aren't so great right in or near my life lately (which I will not go into on the interwebs) but I refuse to let them define my world. I choose to keep my eyes on things that are much bigger and far more glorious than these temporal things. If you don't believe in the possibilities of glorious promises, I dare you to watch a sunrise from my patio. I dare you to gaze into the face of a newborn baby. You couldn't possibly feel overwhelmed by challenges. The wonder of it all is far too... well,  wonderful!
AND! Next month I shall have a brand new Grand Nephew. Yes, Aria is about to become a BIG sister! And that my friends, is a glorious thing!
My faith reminds me daily. I know why I believe.
Big hugs xo♥
I didn't plant any sunflowers this year
And by that I mean I didn't buy the seeds so my Dad could plant 'em this year. Because if it's in his yard, he's planting it, fertilizing it and watering it! Or else. Or else I don't know what because I just wouldn't do that to my Dad. This is a sunflower from a few years ago. It was about 9 feet tall! Not the actual flower... the stalk. The whole back corner of the yard was littered with sunflowers. Lovely!
My parents will be visiting the SisterDears in a few weeks. I miss them already. Who will make me spaghetti and meatballs? Or the best grilled chicken? Or tell me who did what when the Celtics played? I don't ever watch the Celtics but they are a Boston team so Dad HAS to tell me about them. :P
Believe it or not, today the flooring FINALLY will get put down in the hallway. We did the plywood over the sub-flooring yesterday. And by we I mean Al. I was my usual wonderful "go-get-me-the-such-and-such" fetcher. I fetch well. Awesome, actually. I know the difference between an open-end wrench and an adjustable wrench and everything. Not that we used those 2 tools yesterday. Yesterday was all about saws and hammers. And pasta for supper. And going to bed early because I was pooped from all that fetching. And all the HAWT! It was 103 yesterday. Oppressive, icky sticky.
I'd better get a move on! Al will be here any time now. I hope your day is lovely! Big hugs xo♥
Aging Gracefully-ish... with a little help from Maxine
Today, because what I am actually doing is making a bazillion of these roller diagrams and cleaning up web site clutter,
and because my brain can't focus on much else at this time, I have a funnier than fiction for you...
Aunt Mildred was a 93-year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death. Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out his old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart, since it was badly broken in the first place.
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to someone, she called her doctor's office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be on a woman. The doctor said, 'Your heart would be just below your left breast'.
Later that night........ Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.
one of a kind
My President, Ronald Reagan. This man will very likely always be my favorite President in my lifetime. Who could handle the press corps like Ronnie could? Or world leaders?
And who could handle him better than Nancy? ;)
I've seen some of the people tossing their hats into the ring for the next election... I am not inspired.
I've been working almost the entire weekend, with just a few hours off to take my mother to BWTB. We did not win! I am tired, but at least I think I have a working plan, a "vision" of sorts... Well, a vision within my capabilities. A designer I am not. There's just a whole lotta work ahead. Type, type, click, click, type. Times eleventy billion. I wish I could afford to have people for that.
So sorry I didn't make the rounds today. I got an early jump on it this morning and once I get a rhythm goin' it's hard for me to break it.
Stock a fork in me. I am done! Off to bed I go. Enjoy your evening! Big hugs xo
One thing
I sure can't do one thing. Sometimes I'll start off doing something and then I see something and have to do that thing and then something else distracts me and I have to do THAT thing and sometimes I never even finish that one thing I started off doing. This applies to housework, TV watching, shopping at the Lowesdepotstore and it most certainly applies to re-designing and building my web site.
I believe that's called Mul-ti-Task-ing.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Today I plan to do some house-cleaning and some more work on my web site. I can't wait to see if I stay on-task! I hope your day is lovely! Mostly I hope it's not too hot and icky-sticky again today here at the Swamp! Big hugs xo♥
Friday! Fabulous Friday!
Nothing terribly exciting to report other than... It's Friday! YAY! I don't why that's so exciting because I have nothing fun planned and it will be more of the same plus the mundane housework chores, but the weekend always seems better, doesn't it?
I did do some poking around yesterday on Carnival's web site looking for a cruise. That prompted a call from Steve, our new personal cruise dude. I told him not to worry, he'll be the first to know when I'm ready to book. :D
I've been buried in my web site. I've found SO many pages that needed attention. My bad! More of the same today. And of course, I'm hoping for lots of lovely orders to distract me!
As today's quotation says, getting off on the right foot works wonders to set the tone for the day. I hope your day is lovely! So smiles all around! Big hugs xo♥
All you need is _____.
Good morning! I'm getting a bit of a late start today. I took a MotherDear to BWTB and you know what that means... Late to bed, late to rise!
Did you ever have one of those moments when you're really, REALLY craving chocolate and you go to get something out of your bag or a drawer and "LAAAAA", there is a Milky Way Bar?! That totally happened to me yesterday! It was like winning the lottery!
I've been consumed with my business web site. After more than a week of brainstorming with my guru about the publishing issues, we're both stumped. We tend to think one (or more) of my files may have become corrupted during an incomplete or interrupted publish. Corruptus Interruptus? Anyway, what that means is now I have to build an entire brand new web site. Once it's done, I'll have him blow away the old one and I'll do a complete, clean publish. This will take quite some time to accomplish. Months. At least I got all of the new catalog and price lists published before this problem reared its ugly head. I can still publish if I absolutely need to... a single file at a time... but it takes multiple attempts and is very tedious and time consuming. And ANNOYING.
Thank God for the guy who invented chocolate! :P
I hope your day is wonderful! And mine, too! Big hugs xo♥
If it weren't for bad luck...
I'd have no luck at all... at least when is comes to home improvement projects and repairs. If you missed it on Facebook yesterday, as soon as we lifted the carpet up we realized the project was going to be much BIGger than we bargained for (y'all). The drain for the air handler, which is located in the hallway, has apparently had a slow drip, drip, drip from the drain onto the floor. It got about half of the sub-flooring in the hallway and linen closet wet. Soaked. DRENCHED even.
After we got the carpet and pad, wet flooring and some of the drywall carried outside to go to the dump, we cleaned it all up and then bleached it all to make sure any and all mold would be nicely DEADed. Yuck. That took until about 5:30pm. Ugh.
Then we re-hung the door because I didn't want the cats anywhere near the bleach. (That would be the door which WAS between the living room and the hallway essentially dividing the house in half which I removed when I moved to the Swamp because I wanted the house to feel more open.)
And as I was typing that previous sentence, Grayson ran into my bedroom and jumped up onto my dresser! My dad just got up and when he opened the hallway door... well, you know the rest.
So now Al and I need to get thee to the Lowesdepotstore to get a bunch of materials to put it all back together. On top of replacing the sub-floor there will also be a tiny bit of drywall to replace which naturally means some mudding, sanding and re-painting. Fun!?
And once that's all done THEN I'll be able to put in my new Luxury Vinyl flooring.
And maybe after THAT I'll be able to start one of my new books.
Despite all of the above, I will still manage to be some YAY in my day, and I hope you will, too! Big hugs xo♥
Saturday, summer reading, and flooring
I got these at Sam's last night. They were in the Bargain Basement Bin, all under $5. I hope I like at least a couple of them! I'll let you know!
So in just a few minutes Al will be arriving and I finally get to rip out the carpet in the hallway and install the "Luxury Vinyl". That's what I call it now because that's how the 'independent 3rd party' referred to it when I had my fire/water damage claim at the yellow house. They valued it at nearly $8 per square foot - not yard! And that price was just the replacement value, not including installation. I just love it.
The day is already getting away from me! I'd take photos of the before and after but it's just a dark, narrow hallway full of doors. Nothing terribly exciting. srsly.
Well, unless you are me and can't wait for the carpet to be gone. THAT is my idea of exciting! hahaha!
Oh! And I found my ex-SILs on facebook. One of them already accepted my friend request. We all use to be so close. I hope we can reconnect.
That's all from sultry, sticky, south jaw-jah right now! Don't forget to put some YAY in your day! Big hugs xo♥
It's gonna be one of those days!
So this morning two things happened in the first 5 minutes to make me smile.
  1. I made my first cuppa coffee, only to discover that I forgot to put my K-cup into the Kuerig. It was a nice cuppa water though!
  2. I finally remembered to turn the page on my calendar to June and was delighted to see this photo:
Whitey loves napping on the patio
I had that photo on my iPhone for the longest time. Now I have this one:
Whitey, colored pencil effect
Who could resist that boy's sweet face? srsly.
I meant to write this post 4 hours ago. I've already been working on my web site for hours. Once I start, it's hard to make myself stop. Even for a cuppa coffee, which I am going to get now. I hope I remember to put the K-cup in this time! :P
Have a fabulous Friday, y'all! I can't wait until tomorrow as I say farewell to yet another room of carpet! Woohoo! Big hugs xo♥
on virtues
They say Patience is a virtue. But they also say never to pray for Patience because "Tribulation worketh Patience" (Romans 5:3) ...meaning Patience is the end result; you must first walk through the fires.
So this morning, when I opened my bedroom door and first found trash retrieved from the bathroom trash can, followed by about a dozen mousies scattered down the hallway and into the living room, followed by a ginormous furball and 4 meowing kitties wanting FOODS along the path to my coffee pot, I prayed for the Courage to keep on walking without allowing it to start my day off with aggravation and annoyance.
Then, after washing their water bowl and refilling it, scooping the litter box, sweeping the laundry room and grabbing a can of wet food for their breakfast, my eyes fell upon another sight. Three of them, Gandalf, Grayson and Gracie, were watching and waiting from the kitchen doorway. And there, perched on the pouting chair in the corner of the mud room, was Whitey. All of them ever so Patient.
And all of them looking completely sweet and adorable.
So far, so good. :P
Welcome to Thursday! Don't forget to put some YAY in your day! Big hugs xo♥
Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Welcome to June!
And welcome to Hurricane Season, summer heat and humidity, picnics and BBQs, family gatherings and outings, vacations and for some reason, many birthdays! I even have one brother and two very dear friends who share the same birthday on the 29th.
Mum got her BEEds order from Miss Bee yesterday! Aren't they purdy?
Mum also got 2 new pairs of  Clip-on earrings (not in the photo). She was so excited to finally have some new earrings as she hasn't found clip-on earrings in the store in years and years!
Miss Bee, I would LOVE a 25" necklace using those cranberry-colored beads! More cranberry than clear crystal and some silver, too! Do you take orders from blogs? hahahaha!
I still haven't been able to figure out what's preventing me from publishing to my business web site. It's starting to annoy me now. I think I shall take today off from working on it so I can refresh and start anew, and since it is the first day of the month, I'm also hoping to be too busy taking orders! :P
I hope your day is fabulous! Big hugs xo♥
