Farewell, 2011

Farewell, 2011! It was a very good year.

Or it will be, once I allow the Cabernet Sauvignon to age!

Two of the gifts Lynda brought were these 2 bottles of wine which she & Rick made earlier this year. The Cabernet will be allowed to age a few years... The Blackberry Port is ready to drink now. I'm thinking it may be used for our New Years Eve toast! After all, we are not champagne drinkers here. :)

Tonight is MotherDear's famously fabulous Lasagna with some dear friends. We will ring in the New Year with Happy New Year Tiaras and horns - several hours earlier than midnight, but it still counts!

I wish you all have a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year! And me, too.

BWTB

Beeds by Bee were Lucky Beeds last night for these 2!

Me? Not so much. And I even wore a matching necklace, too. Bugger.

Have yourself a lovely day! I know we will because MotherDear is making her Lasagna for tomorrow night!

G is for Whitey

There are those who say that Whitey's name does not begin with "G" so he can not technically be part of The DailyGs. Well, other than the fact that our last name begins with "G" how about this?

Whitey LOOKS like a "G"!

And then there is the fact that Whitey is Gorgeous. Gallant. Gay. Great. Gregarious. Gentle. Graceful. Gifted. Generous.

Whitey is also just a little Gelatinous.

And maybe a tiny bit Gassy.

Perhaps that last one was a little bit too much information.

Sorry.

However, one thing Whitey is not anymore is sick! And that is a GREAT thing!

Thanks, everybuudy, for all your good wishes, thoughts, vibes, karma, prayers and purrs!

Srsly.

Of SisterDears, Sunshine & Secrets

Yesterday was a perfectly lovely day. The first of 12 days Lynda will be here!

First thing in the morning we all enjoyed our coffee and chatted a bit. Then it was time to see what Santa brought us! We opened our stockings and gifts. One of my favorite gifts was a pair of earrings!

Lynda contacted Miss Bee and asked her make some special Sunshine SisterDear earrings for all of us! And what a delightful surprise!

What makes them so special is that one of our long-standing traditional family things is a song my Dad has played on his guitar and sung since our childhood, You Are My Sunshine. We have plaques, wall-hangings and even Wine Labels in its honor!

It has become a generational tradition! In fact, while Dad was in the hospital Lynda sent this video of her granddaughter Aria singing 'You Are My Sunshine' to Aria's Grampy Walter. Seeing his great-granddaughter Aria sing him a lovely song brought smiles to his face and warmed his heart while he was recovering from his surgery... and tears to my eyes!

So sweet!

Dad has a bunch of medical appointments today. I had planned to go but since the RN SisterDear is here and she will be going to speak with the doctors, I have decided that today is a good day to stay here and get all my year-end payroll processed and as much of the other year-end paperwork done that I can. Lynda will come back with a full report for me and I can get done what I need to get done!

See how nicely that all worked out? :)

Forgive me if I don't get around too much this week. I'm up to my neck in SisterDear visiting, sick parents and year-end business stuff. And I HOPE a few lovely orders, too!

I hope your day is lovely! And mine, too!

Santa came! Santa came!

And she brought cookies! 4 kinds!

Lynda arrived and we stayed up waaaay past my bedtime yapping and laughing and having chicken salad sammiches. And cookies. MotherDear and Dad had a little nap after supper so they could visit a bit with Lynda, but I didn't dare. I'll catch up tonight.

So this morning is our Christmas and Dad's making us pancakes. I have to work and I hope I get lots of lovey orders, but there will be plenty of SisterDear time, too!

I hope your day is lovely.

Boxing Day

So in the words of SisterDear Janice... "Well, I'm glad that's over!"

Don't get me wrong. I love Christmas, but I'm not crazy about what it's become. It's definitely not what it was when I was a kid. Family, food, the Santa parade and visiting extended family. And more food! We got new coats and boots, maybe a new sled or saucer and a few little toys and we were happy as can be.

Today, kid's lists have items that run in the many hundreds of dollars, and even thousands! Budget busters!

Or do people even have budgets anymore?

We had a lovely meal with Al & Barbara yesterday and then we all came home and had a nice nap! I'm working today but I'll also be making up the guest room for SisterDear Lynda, who will arrive tonight. I may need another nap today, as her plane arrives after my bedtime! But I'll manage. :)

Have yourself a lovely Boxing Day!

Merry Christmas!

I hope this day will bring you all many blessings!

We are headed over to the home of our dear friends, Al & Barbara's. They are making a roast beast and all the fixin's. Dad is feeling well enough to go and he absolutely loves Barbara's Fried Okra so off we shall go!

Whitey sounds a bit better. He just got his 3rd dose of 5 so I'm hoping he's much better today! His appetite, drinking and mousie-playing have been great, too! Gandalf is still a tiny bit hissy-face towards Whitey since he got back home from the vets, but that's normal.

For a cat. :)

We're postponing our little Christmas until  SisterDear Lynda arrives tomorrow night. Have a blessed day, y'all! God bless us, everyone!

2 Turtle Doves

Whitey found a Hidey Hole behind my bag on the couch in the exam room

I had to take Whitey in to see Dr. Tad yesterday. What I had hoped was a hairball turned out to be an Upper Respiratory Infection. His nose is full of boogers and he sounds just awful this morning. Bless his heart.

Gracie greets Whitey upon his return from the Vet's

Dr. Tad told me that he didn't have a fever and his lungs are clear so those are 2 very good signs that he can kick this to the curb quickly. He also told me that I'd start seeing an improvement today. Since it's only been 12 hours since the first dose of antibiotics I'll give the medicine a little more time to do its stuff. I sure hope Dr. Tad was right and that my boogery boy starts feeling and sounding better soon.

Dad continues to heal up and is doing pretty good. Much to MotherDear's chagrin, Dad swept off the patio and raked up a few pine needles yesterday afternoon before his nap. I watched him carefully. He did not strain and, near as I could tell, he did not break any of his doctor's orders.

We just have a quiet evening planned here at the Swamp as we are delaying our Christmas until SisterDear Lynda arrives the night of the 26th.

Merry Christmas Eve to you all! And to me, too. :)

3 French Hens...

Wow, Christmas is nearly upon us! Lately I feel like I'm slip-sliding on an slippery, icy sidewalk, hurdling towards something.... something hard that you know is gonna leave a mark! Time is just whooshing by this year! Really! It feels like 2011 just started and we're just about done with it.

Sorry. It just isn't Christmas without watching The Year Without a Santa Claus and those mischievous Miser brothers, Snow Miser and Heat Miser. :)

Tommy's Santa hat! It's my favorite of all I've made.

Dad had his first visit with his visiting nurse yesterday. She was nice and all, but I seriously have to wonder why she's even coming. I thought she'd be here daily, but she said the next visit will be next Tuesday. TUESDAY? By Monday my sister Lynda, the RN, will be here for 10 days. Who needs a visiting nurse by Tuesday? *shaking head*

Al came over yesterday to get started on painting all of the doors in the house. Yes. I did just say that... 3 days before Christmas. I've been waiting 2 years to kiss this nasty yellowy-brown woodwork bu-bye and he finally has the time and the inclination... and his new old paint sprayer gun is finally working properly after ordering parts and tinkering on it for weeks. We only got 1 side of 2 doors painted yesterday, what with all the running around for paint and mineral spirits and such. The wind carried lots of little no-see-ums into the paint as yesterday was warm but very windy.

Bugger.

Literally! :)

Oh. and my business was brisk yesterday! Woohoo!

So that's all I know today. I hope your day is full of YAY! And mine, too!

4 Calling Birds...

It was a beautiful morning sky yesterday here at the Swamp. A perfect way to start the day considering that it was Dad's 83rd Birthday as well as the day he was released from the hospital.

Beginning this morning, a visiting nurse will be coming to see about him, probably for about a week or so. That makes me feel a bit better as I am not the nurse in the family. My sister Lynda, the nurse in the family, will be arriving the night after Christmas. We're all excited about her visit!

Oh, and in case you were wondering... Yes! There was cake!

Cupcakes, that is!

So today is the last day most people are working before beginning their Christmas festivities! I hope you won't forget to put some YAY in your day. And me, too!

5 Golden Rings...

Remember this mess? And I had half of the bags of yarn on my bed when I snapped the shot...

Well, lookie what I did yesterday, all by myself with my own tools...

Don't I feel clever?! Actually, it was really quite easy peasy. But still. Al just happened to have arrived just as I was setting it into the cubby. I must admit to feeling mighty pleased with myself. For one thing, I did it myself. Mostly I'm delighted to have found a bookcase that fit this weird niche quite nicely and it solved a storage problem at the same time! D for done!

6 Geese a-laying

I'm heading out to the hospital in a few minutes to get trained on what I may need to know about taking care of Dad once he comes home tomorrow. MotherDear is coming, too.

SisterDear Lynda - the RN who literally does this for a living - will be arriving the day after Christmas but we'll already be trained. Isn't that fabulous?

I'm not really the caregiver type... I'm more the "I'll hire a caregiver" type! My head is already spinning so that's about all I know right now. Have yourself a lovely day, OK?

Monday, December 19, 2011

What's up with all the ads on YouTube now?

I just got back from the hospital. I was there early, before 6am. I wanted to be sure I was there to speak with Dad's surgeon when he came in on his rounds. In a nutshell, he said Dad is doing just great and everything looks great! He told the nurse it was OK to give him regular food again! Dad was thrilled! He also asked Dad if he wanted to be released to rehab or home. HOME! We're looking at Wednesday... Dad's 83rd Birthday!

I'll make him Welcome Home/Birthday cupcakes tomorrow!

Hospital Gift Shop Window

So it's 1 week until Christmas. Typically, this is a very slow week for my business but, being the eternal optimist, I'm hoping for lots of lovely orders all week!

I hope your day is full of YAY!

Toys for Tots Traffic Jam and other Christmas traditions

So I went out for my haircut, as planned. Then I headed for the house. Only I couldn't get there. Unbeknownst to me, there was an annual motorcycle rally that, as near as I could see, had all of our city and county law enforcement on special duty, stopping all normal traffic so thousands and thousands of motorcycles could jam up traffic.

Now truly, I have nothing against motorcycles, those who ride said motorcycles or giving a toy to a child at Christmas. I have a problem with them crippling the already heavy holiday traffic. Y'all, it took me an hour to get home and I was about a quarter mile around the corner from my house. That's just not right.

And a cop yelled at me. boohoo.

Then my mother told me how awful the post office lines were and I decided my crocheted mad hatter gifts will not be mailed out until after Christmas. I don't do stress.

On the upside, I couldn't take any lefts and happened on by my favorite home here around the holidays. It's a lovely old Victorian and every year they hang fresh wreathes on every window and garland around the door. Understated and Beautiful. As luck would have it, I had to stop in front of it with the driver's side toward the house so I snapped a photo.

This morning is visiting Dad. His nose tube was finally removed yesterday! They also started him on clear liquids. He's thrilled! He pulled the tube out so many times that the nurse told him the next step was tying down his hands. Mama mia. Glad that part is over! Bless his heart.

This afternoon will be BWTB.

Saturday at the Swamp

It's the Saturday before Christmas Eve and dang it if I don't still have 2 hats to finish before I can get everything in the mail!

So today will be full of busy. First off, a dash to the hairdresser for a haircut. I've been growing my hair out for a few months and I just can't stand it anymore. Yesterday I nearly took the scissors to it myself! Then I'll visit Dad at the hospital and back to the Swamp to finish up these 2 last hats and then a mad dash to the post office, assuming I can finish up everything before they close!

Busy! Busy! Busy!

Not Gracie and the boys, though. They'll be busy doing what you see Gracie doing in the photo... snoozin' and stretchin'... stretchin' and snoozin'!

I hope your day is full of YAY!

Friday, I think

Dad finally got his wish yesterday and he left ICU, where the nurses have just 2 patients, for a regular room, where the nurses have many more than 2 patients. I was hoping he'd stay in ICU at least another day.

He was a bit naughty yesterday... He pulled out his nose tube thingy and it had to be put back in.

Twice.

As wonderful as everyone has been at the hospital, MotherDear and I have found one thing which is just dreadful... Parking. More specifically, the lack of parking. If you don't get there first thing in the morning, you can plan on parking blocks away. MD has had to use her cane because all of the walking is killing her back.

The other night (right after work) I had to park far away from the hospital. I dropped MD at the door and parked. No problem. When we left I told MD to sit on the bench while I got the car. I had to walk... Alone in the dark.

Al, being the good friend that he is, offered to drive me and MD up to the hospital after work so I wouldn't have to do that again... And then he took us out to Applebee's so we wouldn't have to worry about cooking.

I ordered my favorite Oriental Chicken Salad, MD got Chicken Fettuccini Carbonara... and Al got the exact same 2 meals, only as takeout for him and Barbara.

MD and I have both decided that neither of us will do any more night hospital visits. As you may recall, we all go to bed rather early anyway, and walking in the dark and dealing with no parking is not something we need to do.

So... It's Friday already, or at last. I'm not sure which after this week. I hope your day is full of YAY!

Oh... And this, my friends, is the Spinach and Artichoke Dip we had as an appetizer at Applebee's the other night. Yum!

10 days until Christmas!

Can you believe it?

Aria made her Grampy Walter another cute video to cheer him while he's recovering.

And he loved it!

Aria is just the cutest! And so smart. And I'm not just saying that. She IS! srsly. :)

Dad was so much better yesterday! Of course, he'll be thrilled when they take out the nose tube thingy.

My mother called me early yesterday afternoon to tell me that when she got there not only was he doing MUCH better than the night before, he was mad as a hornet because he was still in ICU despite his doctor saying he was well enough to go to the floor. Alas, they did not have a room open for him so he was stuck in ICU until a room opens up. However, what mostly made him mad was that his glasses and crossword puzzle books and personal belongings were on another floor! Dad loves his crossword puzzle books!

MotherDear asked his nurse exactly where his stuff was so she could go get them for him. The nurse made a call and found out they were just 2 floors down right at the nurses station... Then she went to fetch his stuff herself!

I need to make all of his nurses some cupcakes for taking such good care of him!

Mid-week musings

So it's the morning after Dad's surgery. His doctor said Dad did great during the surgery and he was very pleased. Because of Dad's age, he'll be in ICU for a day or two, depending on how he does before being sent to the floor. They want to be sure he doesn't develop post surgery pneumonia. The doctor was just great. He even called to speak to my sister Lynda, the surg-med RN, right after he spoke to my mother and me.

Yesterday was such a long day. My mother has been a trooper. I was actually afraid to see my Dad right after surgery, so I chose to go home and let my mother visit with him after he got out of recovery. He was still well out of it so she was soon home for her afternoon nap. We went up together at 5pm and he was a bit more alert. His eyes smiled when he realized my mother was there.

His ICU nurse Chris was/is just marvelous! (And she has time to be... She only has 2 patients! Sometimes Lynda has 14 patients!) Chris wrote down a bunch of medical stuff for me to tell Lynda. She said as an surgical ICU nurse, those were the questions she'd want answered. She also gave me the number for her desk and invited us to call any time, 24/7 for as long as Dad is there.

I've got to say that the hospital and absolutely every one associated with it, from the parking lot golf cart dude all the way through have all been just so wonderful.

And Thank You all for your prayers.

An Aria Lullaby to Ian

I just love the little Christmas Rudolph finale, don't you?! :)

Ian is about 5 months old now and is already wearing 12-18 months. He looks so much like his father I've taken to calling him Mini-Mike.

Or Moose.

I played this video last night for Dad. He loved it!

The hospital has awesome Wi-Fi! In fact, since it is so great and since Dad really loved watching the video and given that he really hates talking on the phone no matter how much he loves you, I suggested to family members that somebody make him a video every day for me to play for him to cheer him while he's in the hospital.

Surgery is early this morning. Thank you for your prayers.

Monday at the Swamp

It's good to have a plan. Just be prepared to change it.

So yesterday morning I was sitting on my bed, watching The Goonies and crocheting like a mad woman, all according to my plan when the phone rang. Al called to ask if it was a good day to put in the closet organizer in office closet and guest bedroom.

Hello?

Someone has the time and inclination to help me resolve an issue? Yes, it's a very good day for that!

The day before I closed on the house I was attempting to get something off the top shelf in the office closet and everything came crashing down on my head. I actually had a knot on my head!

We got the office closet done yesterday and depending on how Al's feet are feeling and how his chore schedule goes, we may get the guest bedroom closet done today.

The rest of the week is out of the question for me. Dad's going into the hospital today, one day earlier than his scheduled surgery, which will be tomorrow morning. I welcome your prayers, both for him and for my mother. Dad has somehow managed to live 82 years, 11 months and 356 days and, other than having his tonsils removed when he was 3 years old, Dad has never had surgery!

Here's hoping your day is full of YAY, and mine, too!

PS. See this useless cubby hole eye sore of a thingy in my bedroom, full of bags of yarn, a plastic container of yarn and a basket of even more yarn? This annoying cubby hole thingy is looming and moving ever closer to the top of my problems to be resolved list... Any suggestions?

of Pom Poms and Tommy

Patti, these are Pom Poms!

Today I will be trying out a new pattern to make a Santa Hat for my 12 year old nephew, Tommy. He is in his glory around Christmas with the frenzy of Santa and decorating and such.

Tommy is twin to Kevin. Tommy and Kevin are identical twins. They had the dubious distinction of sharing a single placenta. The condition is called Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Quite often neither twin survives as there is a disproportional blood supply.

TTTS: (excerpt from Wikipedia)
As a result of sharing a single placenta, the blood supplies of monochorionic twin fetuses can become connected, so that they share blood circulation: although each fetus uses its own portion of the placenta, the connecting blood vessels within the placenta allow blood to pass from one twin to the other. Depending on the number, type and direction of the interconnecting blood vessels (anastomoses), blood can be transferred disproportionately from one twin (the "donor") to the other (the "recipient"). The transfusion causes the donor twin to have decreased blood volume, retarding the donor's development and growth, and also decreased urinary output, leading to a lower than normal level of amniotic fluid (becoming oligohydramnios). The blood volume of the recipient twin is increased, which can strain the fetus's heart and eventually lead to heart failure, and also higher than normal urinary output, which can lead to excess amniotic fluid (becoming polyhydramnios).
In early pregnancy (before 26 weeks), TTTS can cause both fetuses to die, or lead to severe disabilities. If TTTS develops after 26 weeks, the babies can usually be delivered alive and have a greater chance of survival without disability.

But both Kevin and Tommy survived, despite the fact they it was not known that they shared a single placenta until they were being born. SisterDear Janice's Doctor had no clue during her pregnancy, despite excellent pre-natal care, tests and sonograms for her high-risk pregnancy. You see, not only was she carrying twins, but Janice had had a history of miscarriages between her first 2 older children... and she was 41 years old!

As you can see from Tommy's (L) and Kevin's (R) hospital photo below, on the day that Tommy was being released from the hospital, there was a distinct difference in their weight. Tommy's weight was about half of Kevin's. Kevin's birth weight was normal at a bit over 6 pounds and he got to go home right away while Tommy had to remain in the NICU for about 3 weeks. Even so, he was still under 4 pounds when he finally got to go home.

But that is not the only difference.

As it turned out Tommy suffered a Brain Injury in utero due to lack of oxygen. He has also been diagnosed as PDD/NOS, which is in the Autism Spectrum. Fortunately, Tommy is very high-functioning.  He has just recently had Bipolar Disorder added to his list of diagnoses.

This boy is normally is a joy to be around, although whilst getting adjusted to a new med his tantruming is quite challenging for his mother, his teachers and well, for everyone. This last month has been quite difficult, in fact.

Tommy always gets into a heightened level of excitement around the holidays. He plans and decorates and has costumes for every holiday. And I do mean EVERY holiday. Halloween is what Janice refers to as "his High Holy Day" and Christmas is right at the top of his list while Thanksgiving isn't quite as high on Tommy's radar.

Sorry... This post wasn't planned to be about TTTS and Autism and such. It's just that I wanted to do a special hat for Tommy and I have been looking for a Santa Hat crochet pattern that is fairly simple, as I am not all that fancy a crochet-er and I finally found one yesterday! I'm excited to start it which will be right after I finish the hat I am currently crocheting for his brother Kevin.

If I finish Tommy's Santa Hat I'll be going to BWTB with Mother Dear.

Wish me luck! I'll need it. I hate following patterns!

Swampy Saturday

The Swamp,

I'm going to be crocheting like a mad woman this weekend, hoping to finish up everything on my to do list so I can get everything in the mail for delivery on time to go under everyone's Christmas trees.

I am also toying with the idea of a dash out to the bigger Walmart over by the mall - and Michael's - for a specific yarn I've run out of and my Walmart has not put back into stock.

Feel free to talk me out of that.

Of course it's not all work and no play... I'll also be on litter box duty and I'll be dancing with the Dyson and my floor steamer, too. I'm the Duchess of Glitz and Glamor!

Hope your day is full of YAY!

The world has changed.

It keeps getting smaller. Now I don't know if that is good or bad, but with the technology at our disposal it does mean that my reach for potential customers is now global. Yay!

Just yesterday I got a lovely order that will be shipping to New Zealand! It was during the process of pulling this order together that I was told by the President of one of my Roller Manufacturers that they will now drop ship for me Internationally. Woohoo! Up until now I could only drop-ship within the US and Canada. This particular order is being handled by an exporter for my customer.

I was quite excited with this news as this opens up a whole world of potential customers. Literally!

I wish I could deliver this order myself. If I could then perhaps I could stop by the set of The Hobbit (parts 1 and 2), the upcoming movies which are currently filming once again on location in Wellington, NZ. Wellington is about 350 miles from Auckland, where the rollers are headed, but seeing that I'd have already traveled about 8,000 miles, what's 350 more?

:)

It's Friday! I hope your day is full of YAY, and mine, too!

C minus 17? Really?

This was yesterday morning's sunrise over the Swamp It was warm and pretty and peaceful. It changed to overcast and chilly mere moments after I shot this. We reached our high for the day by 7am and it dropped steadily all day. It was raw, cold and rainy. We are under a freeze warning until tomorrow. Brr...

I just realized how close Christmas is! I had better get my crocheting finished up so I can mail off packages. I may have bit off more than I can chew in such a short time.

Here's a peek.

Lots more to go! Hope your day is full of YAY!

Where's that Whitey Wonderful Wednesday

The closing HAPPENED. I felt bad that the buyers had to sign that 2+ inches of paperwork. Truly, I did. Lawyers are nothing if not verbose and unnecessarily complicated. They will be the first to admit it.

Me, Larry the Realtor and Al (who came just for fun, moral support and to visit with Larry) talked amongst ourselves about dogs and pecans and hunting and fishing and unpleasant neighbors. Larry the Realtor is also a neighbor of Al's and mine in the pecan orchard.

Let's just say that the buyers will get an eye-opener when they get to know the back fence neighbor. Oh, yes, they will! I did NOT disclose anything about the back-fence neighbor. Just saying. :)

And then we talked some more about dogs!

I really miss having dogs. Sorry, kitties, but I truly do!

I hope we weren't too disruptive. But they got 'er done! A bit over an hour later, I got my check, handed over the keys and the garage door opener and then I headed to the bank.

Which reminds me... why is it that they require certified funds at a closing but the seller gets a check that isn't certified and has a 2-day hold on it before the funds are available? That's just not right, people!

So put a period after that business. D for done. Buh-bye, Yellow house. I loved you. You were an awesome house! I still miss you... especially the awesome sunrises and sunsets from the back patio, the fireplace and my master bedroom.

Let the next chapter begin. :)

It's Closing Time Again

So far as I know, we're a go for Closing at 10am.

However... yesterday was not without its drama.

Larry the Realtor called about 3:30 to tell me he was 99% sure we were still closing, but he had just been told that the lender still did not have the insurance yet. Larry the Realtor went ballistic on the other Realtor and the lender. We are closing a week late... They should have had all of that weeks ago.

And the settlement statement still isn't right. The attorney's office should get that all sorted. I hope.

Another "Life with Cats" Lesson

Lesson # Eleventy seven billion and six...

Miss Gracie has the cutest way of napping. She holds her Special Leg and her tail in the cutest way and then she bends her head down into this compact little package. It blocks the light. It keeps nosy brothers from sniffing her butt. She stays all warm and cozy. And most importantly, she is still near me.

On my all-in-one printer.

Grayson happens to be on it as I type this post.

In a house full of expensive, cozy cat-places.

I've already scooted them off my new wireless printer several (many) times. Its body is Sleek. Thinner. Shinier. Curvier.

Cheap Plastic.

It was not built to withstand the weight of a cat who takes frequent supervisory naps. Never mind 4 cats.

I have actually considered building it a shelf on legs to cover and protect it. I fear for the life of my wireless printer. srsly.

Add yet another 'life with cats lesson' to the making of the list of requirements when shopping office equipment.

In other news... The closing on the Yellow house is still set for tomorrow at 10am. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed. :)

Laundry Day!

Ain't she purdy?! (Edited in Hipstamatic)

I already wrote this post in Blogpress using my iPhone. Unfortunately, as soon as I hit save, it crashed. Bugger. I hope Miss Bee doesn't have any issues posting on the cruise.

Let's see... Oh yeah. So my new used front loader washer had issues. Electronic, digital issues. I don't suffer issues very well, do you?

So yesterday I was a woman on a mission, with the assistance of my very good friend Al. I wanted a Whirlpool, as I've has a long history of good luck with Whirlpools, and my washing machine repairman-guro-guy John says Whirlpool is also at the top of his list for dependability, parts availability and affordability.

So that eliminated lots of the competition right there!

Off we went to Lowes and Home Depot to see what fit my want list:
  • minimal digital razzle-dazzle (can be problematic... always expensive to repair)
  • a large capacity bowl (so I can wash my own quilts without having to bring them to Al & Barbara's front-loader or, God-forbid, a laundromat!)
  • no center post agitator (again, so I can wash my own quilts)
Basically, I want everything I can do with a front-loader, but I don't want the digital.

And I got it! Plus it was on Sale - then they took another 10% off of the Sale price. To sweeten the pot, my electric company is offering $75 Rebates on the High Efficiency models, which this one is.

And it was in stock! I was home doing laundry in no time! Woohoo!

So today is catching up on laundry and BWTB this afternoon. I'll be crocheting my fingers off while the laundry is running.

Don't forget to put some YAY in your day, too!

Blogpress for iPhone is free?

Gandalf, edited in Instagram

Blogpress started crashing on my iPad after the iOS5 upgrade so I was shopping for a new app yesterday.

I wish I knew yesterday that the iPhone version, which I have since discovered works just fine and dandy on the iPad btw, was free BEFORE I spent $2.99 for Blogger Plus... Although Blogger Plus is a very nice little app.

It is nice to have choices, right?

Oh... I also noticed Blogpress for iPad has come down to $2.99 from the $4.99 I paid a year ago.

I'll just pass the savings along to my customers. ;-)

Speaking of shopping... This morning will find me shopping for a new washer. Hoping the stores aren't full of crazy people. Probably too much to ask 3 weeks before Christmas Eve but I'm the eternal optimist!

Oh. One more thing... Now that 2 of the SisterDears have gotten themselves the iPhone 4S this is the kind of stuff I am getting texted to me...

Ian, Lynda and Aria
SisterDear loving her grands on Thanksgiving Day, not to mention the FaceTime video phone calls. Loving all of that!

Have a lovely day! I'm sure gonna try!

Test for Blogger Plus

Trying to figure out this new app.
Ah... Finally... The light goes on.

Friday....

Finally!

Yesterday was the most aggravating day I've had in a very long time. It involved:

  • fighting to get the new modem installed and working on 2 computers, my iPad, my iPhone and my wireless printer
  • trying not to lose my patience with the company who handles my payroll whilst trying to get through to that poor, unfortunate person without at least one remaining working brain cell and not one single iota of common sense
  • a new used washer which won't. It's an un-washer.
  • 4 cat's who for some reason need to keep unplugging my phone lines and internet... behind my ginormous L-shaped desk which requires my moving my entire office. BTW, the cats unplugged the phone line while I was 15 minutes into waiting on hold in the IRS queue to confirm something for the aforementioned stupid payroll company.

So...  I hope I'm done with that kind of day for another very long time indeed.

I still haven't gotten word from Larry the Realtor regarding the new closing date and time. The addendum extended the contract out to Tuesday, Dec 6th, so surely it should be by then.

Right?

Uh-huh.

In other news... I'm giving serious consideration to trading in 4 of the sweetest, cutest, most darling cats for just a tiny bit of sanity and a much cleaner house with far less effort and way less aggravation.

Anyone?

Bueller? ... Bueller?

Happy December. Have a cupcake.

Did I close my eyes and wake up and it's somehow now December 2011? Seriously... this year is a blur.

I made my Dad some Red Velvet cupcakes with Peppermint Frosting yesterday afternoon. He had been on a clear liquids diet for some tests in preparation for some upcoming surgery in a few weeks. I knew when he got home he'd want something sweet-tooth satisfying. It's just your basic Dunkin Hines cake mix and frosting, yet Dad was literally pacing the floor and asking when they'd be ready... just like a little kid! And MotherDear was threatening him that if he knew what was good for him he'd better make sure he didn't eat them all and to leave her a few.

The mix makes 24 cupcakes. They will ALL be gone by the end of today. No doubt about it!

It takes so little effort to make someone you love happy. It's the simplest things. Truly. :)
