Whitey Update

Last evening's Facebook Update:

Whitey and I just got back from seeing Dr. Tad. I have been dreading this all day as I thought I would have to let him go today. Thankfully, he's still with me.

Whitey has a new symptom... a fever. Dr. Tad has been saying that he thought this upper respiratory stuff may be secondary to something else as it should not have lasted this long. The fever indicates something else IS going on. He drew blood and is running a full CB blood panel to check all his vital organs and all total, about 30 things. He gave me a Rx for Clavamox and will call me in the morning with the results, or possibly email me tonight. But he's still with me. BIG sigh.

And just from Friday to Monday, Whitey's weight was down, rather than up, despite being fed through the tube. Dr. Tad also observed that Whitey is now slightly anemic and, for the first time, he detected a slight heart murmur.

So... I'm waiting to hear from Dr. Tad this morning to hear the results of the blood tests. Until then, I have no idea where we go from here.

Thanks for your prayers and purrs. Whitey is one sweet boy.

UPDATE: Whitey Update: Dr. Tad just called. Whitey is Diabetic! I just gave him his first shot of Insulin.

  12. I think I've only commented once on your blog but I read it religiously because of your sweet cat Whitey. I've taken in so many strays over the last 10 years but my Woody is a lot like Whitey. He is so loving and appreciative of everything. I've been so worried about your Whitey and saying purrayers and sending positive thoughts your way. My cat, Apu, was diagnosed with diabetes last January (2011). It took a number of months to get him stabilized but by April we had the correct dosage and I was giving him his injections twice a day with no problem (believe me I was very scared of having to do this when he was first diagnosed). No wonder Whitey hasn't been feeling well! I'm so hoping this diagnosis turns the corner for you both!

Mum had a big shock yesterday. She was helping us comment and had about 40 unread posts in her google reader when she went to get lunch. When she came back in the afternoon it said she had over 1000 posts. They were all from you and all came in at the same time. She marked everything as read and started again.

  22. Thank God for a working diagnosis. Hopefully, with his insulin injections, he will begin to recover. We are still worried about his white call count but it will be much easier for him to fight infections with his sugar under control. Whitey continues to be in our hearts and prayers. We have always loved him and will always love him.
